Emerson School teachers Stefani Maida, left, and Laura Winter hold wool scarves that the school's first and third graders made for Berkeley homeless people. In a project organized by People's Park, the children carefully fringed more than 80 scarves, wrapped them in tissue paper, and enclosed a handmade card with each gift. UC Berkeley staffer Devin Woolridge, site coordinator at people's Park, distributed the packages at a holidy party for park patrons in late December. Students of Emerson teachers Kristen Lono, Laurie Barnes, and Jamie Carlson also participated in the project. |
