Under Construction
Under Construction

The following campus facilities on the edge of the central campus or on outlying properties are now in construction or scheduled to start soon:

Central dining and Office Facility
Work on this new building continues at Bowditch and Channing. Construction during the first quarter of 2002 will involve mainly steel framing, concrete and some roofing work. Street closures are not anticipated, but there may be temporary interruptions to regular traffic flow. The new dining commons is expected to start serving students in spring 2003.

People's Park
A project to control erosion and improve drainage, safety and accessibility along the north end of the park is under-way. Rock walls are in place, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of January. Use of the basketball court has been temporarily interrupted during the construction period.

2200 Bancroft Way
This building at Oxford and Bancroft is being seismically retrofit and remodeled to house campus staff. Construction is scheduled to be completed in March 2002.

Oxford Tract
The Insectary and Greenhouse replacement buildings currently under construction on the north end of the Oxford Tract are nearly complete. Demolition of the existing insectary and greenhouse is scheduled to take place in February. Preparation for construction of a Seismic Replacement Building, which will house staff, faculty and students who are displaced while other campus buildings are being seismically retrofitted, will begin in March 2002.

Memorial Stadium
An initial project to improve the seismic safety of Memorial Stadium involves replacing the press box with a temporary structure, which reporters will use while additional seismic strengthening work is completed in later phases. Demolition of the existing press box is scheduled to begin in February 2002. Construction of the temporary press box is slated to begin in late March, and to be completed in August 2002, in time for the first home football game next fall.

Etcheverry Hall
Exterior repair and roofing at Etcheverry Hall, located on the north side of campus on Hearst Ave., has continued into the new year due to weather delays and a revised understanding of needed repairs. Deferred maintenance work on the building exterior has included concrete and balcony repair and cleaning. As with a few other campus buildings of the same era, the concrete at Etcheverry had not aged as well as was expected, necessitating more repair work than anticipated. The entire exterior will be coated with a sealant, a special elastomeric coating that helps weathering, and then paint

Etcheverry also has a new roof that should be completed by early February.
