Public use of campus library

The University of California, Berkeley's large library system is both a national treasure and a community resource open to the public. Local residents can access materials available at Cal's libraries in several ways:

  • The reading rooms of the main campus libraries are open to the public.
  • Books may be borrowed through the Interlibrary Services. Patrons fill out a request available at any public library branch. Public libraries often charge a nominal fee for this service.
  • Members of the public may also purchase a Cal library card. The cost for a one-year card is $100. A valid photo ID and a check or money order must accompany applications.

The UC library system is available online at www.lib.berkeley.edu.

The library suggests starting your search for materials by clicking "Pathfinder" under "University Catalogs" and then following the instructions.
