Following several months of retrofitting, the Berkeley Art Museum is celebrating its reopening with an open house Jan. 27 and longer "twilight" hours - 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday. The BAM/PFA open house will feature film, music, and art from 1 to 7 p.m. Among the highlights are screenings of the 10th International Children's Film Festival at the Pacific Film Archive; free tours of museum exhibitions including "Ansel Adams in the University of California Collections" and a new exhibition of work by internationally acclaimed Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado; an opening of an exhibition by artist Sowon Kwon; and a 4:30 p.m. performance by the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir. Admission to the open house is free, and there will be free drinks and light snacks served all afternoon. To launch the evening visiting times, the museum store is offering a Twilight Special. Visitors who shop between 5 and 7 p.m. will receive a free BAM/PFA Snow Globe with any purchase of more than $25 (offer valid through Feb.28, 2002). And, as a reopening special, the art museum's café, Muse, is offering Sweet Treats for Filmgoers - dine at Muse before seeing the films at the Pacific Film Archive, or after a matinee, and dessert is on BAM/PFA. Filmgoers just show a PFA ticket for a free sweet (offer valid through Feb. 28, 2002). For information, call (510) 642-0808 or visit the museum's website at www.bampfa.berkeley.edu |
