Review of campus LRDP postponed

UC Berkeley has postponed submission of its Long Range Development Plan to the UC Board of Regents. Originally scheduled for the board’s November meeting, the plan will be submitted to the board for review and approval at its January meeting.

The proposed plan would guide campus development through the year 2020.

The postponement allows the campus to review aspects of the plan that are of particular concern to the community: designation of a hill area above campus as a potential site for faculty housing and plans to increase parking by as much as 30 percent, or 2,300 spaces.

The new date will also give better access to community members who want to attend the Regents’ meeting. The Novem-ber meeting is in Los Angeles, and the January meeting will be in San Francisco.

The draft plan was distributed for public comment in spring 2004 and was followed by two public hearings. Once ap-proved, the document will replace UC Ber-keley’s current long-range plan and guide campus development from 2005 to 2020.
