Pac-10 Track and Field Championships showcase Cal athletes in May

Last fall Bolota Asmerom ran the 5000-meter race for Eritrea at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. This spring, the Cal senior is running for the Blue and Gold. Berkeley spectators will have a rare opportunity in May to watch Asmerom, along with hundreds of the country's top athletes - former and future Olympians - at the Pac-10 Track and Field Championships which will be held at Cal's Edwards Stadium.
May 12 and 13 will feature the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon; May 19 and 20 will be the 20 individual events.

Hamilton Award as Cal's top male academic track and field athlete.
Jennifer Joyce has owned the school record in the hammer throw almost from the moment she stepped on campus as a freshman. She finished second at the 2000 Pac-10 Championship and enters her third year at Cal as an All American hammer thrower. To earn All American status, athletes must score in the top eight at the National Championships.
Dana Lawson is the Bears most versatile thrower. The senior qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship in the shot put with the sixth-best qualifying mark in the country.
Robert Kennedy begins his second season with the Bears as one of the most promising young long jumpers in the country. As a freshman in 2000, he finished 12that the NCAA Championship in the long jump and placed second in the long jump at the Pac-10 Championship. Kennedy represented the U.S. at the National Junior Team in Portugal, had Cal's fastest time of the year in the 100-meter run at the Arizona Quadrangular and was named Cal's Most Outstanding Male Field Athlete.
