Words worth watching

UCTV, a satellite channel now offered locally on cable TV, delivers documentaries, faculty lectures, research symposia, and performances from each of the ten UC campuses. In October, the station is featuring "Words Worth Watching," a series of programs highlighting writers and authors.

The station is a 24-hour direct broadcast satellite channel, seen nationwide on Channel 9412 of the Dish Network and on the Internet at www.uctv.tv. In Berkeley, viewers can now also find it on Berkeley Community TV Channel 78 from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday and on Berkeley Government TV Channel 25 from midnight to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Words worth hearing

In September, UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert M. Berdahl launched a monthly audio broadcast on the web, in which he interviews faculty, students, and distinguished visitors to the campus.

In the first broadcast, Berdahl discusses ethics with new business school Dean Tom Campbell, gets a crash course in geology from Professor Walter Alvarez, hears why two freshmen picked Berkeley, and talks with student leaders about their plans for the year.
